The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device

Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

The preview reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
